I done lived here for a whole year.

Yesterday marked the lapsing of one year since my arrival to New Jersey. I’m still experiencing culture shock. Crazy. Okay, now I’m going to list a bunch of observations I’ve made since moving here. While they might not be exclusive to this area, I have learned them as a result of being here, so they will forever be associated in my brain.

I’ll start with how people talk. Besides the obvious one: accents; there are a few interesting vocabs I’ve seen/heard.

• “True” is a valid response for ANYTHING. You might be familiar with the usage of “true”to concede a point. But over here, you can say it after everything. Even to end conversations!
• Your order is “to stay or to go” instead of “for here or to go”. I’ve heard both though.
• “Mad” = “hella” or “wicked”. It is used as a sort of adverby intensifier. It can mean very or a lot. There may be more uses.
• A “plain” slice of pizza is a slice of cheese pizza. Yo they sell pizza here by-the-slice!

Alright. Now I see that including all my learnings will make quite a lengthy post. Everybody knows y’alls don’t like to read those, so I’m going to you a favor do, and up them split. Okay that last sentence, nobody talks like that. Not sorry.
